Building Growth Through Comprehensive Security
The second edition of the Chanakya Defence Dialogue, a premier international seminar hosted by the Indian Army, is set to take place on October 24 and 25, 2024, at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi. This year's theme, "Drivers in Nation Building: Fuelling Growth Through Comprehensive Security," reflects the event's focus on integrating security into national and international policymaking to promote sustainable development. The dialogue will gather military leaders, policymakers, and strategic experts from around the world to discuss how security can drive national progress.
The primary objective of the dialogue is to explore how comprehensive security can contribute to nation-building and growth. It will feature six expert-led sessions covering a range of topics, from geopolitical dynamics and economic development to social cohesion and technological advancements. Representatives from several countries, including the United States, Russia, Israel, and Sri Lanka, will join Indian defence experts to share insights and strategies.
Hon'ble Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the event and deliver the keynote address, focusing on “India’s Vision for Development and Security.” He will also launch the Indian Army’s Green Initiative 1.0 and the Digitisation of IA 1.0, symbolizing the Army’s commitment to environmental sustainability and technological modernization. His speech will underscore the importance of comprehensive security in achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat @2047, a vision for a developed India.
The dialogue will feature six thematic sessions, each led by experts who will address various dimensions of comprehensive security:
Geopolitical Dynamics This session will focus on the evolving global order, strategic partnerships, and national interests. Key discussions will center on India’s role in the Indo-Pacific and its relationships with major world powers.
Economic Development Strategies Exploring the relationship between economic resilience and national security, this session will highlight how a strong economy can support a robust defence. Topics include economic reforms and boosting domestic industrial capabilities.
Environmental Sustainability The balance between economic growth and environmental preservation will be the focus here. The session will explore how sustainable development strengthens national security and the military’s role in environmental conservation.
Social Cohesion and Inclusive Growth Internal security depends on social unity, and this session will address strategies for inclusive growth that integrates marginalized communities. Discussions will revolve around social cohesion as a critical pillar of national security.
Technology and Security As emerging technologies transform national security, this session will look at the role of artificial intelligence, cyber warfare, and ethical concerns surrounding technology in the defence sector.
Future of Land Warfare The final session will discuss the future of land warfare and technological advancements within the Indian Army. Lessons from global military practices and the importance of indigenous defence technologies will be key points.
On the second day of the dialogue, Dr. S. Somanath, Chairman of ISRO, and Ms. Ruchira Kamboj, Former Permanent Representative of India to the UN, will deliver special addresses. Dr. Somanath will speak on India’s space sector and its growing role in the country's defence capabilities, while Ms. Kamboj will discuss India’s evolving position in a multipolar world.
The Chanakya Defence Dialogue 2024 promises to be a landmark event that will shape India's strategic direction in national security and development. With its focus on comprehensive security as a driver of growth, the dialogue aims to influence future policymaking and strengthen India's position on the global stage.
