The successful testing of the Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) marks a significant leap in India's quest for advanced defense technologies. The Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) is a 4th-generation, man-portable air-defense missile system. Designed to target aerial threats at short distances, VSHORADS provides an agile and highly effective response to low-flying aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and drones within a range of 5 to 20 kilometers. Its sophisticated guidance system can use infrared, radar, or optical tracking technologies to lock onto and destroy enemy targets with high precision.
As aerial threats continue to evolve, with drones and UAVs becoming increasingly prominent in modern warfare, systems like VSHORADS offer a critical layer of defense. The series of tests conducted at Pokhran had two main objectives:
Range and Accuracy: To evaluate VSHORADS’ capability to intercept targets at its maximum operational range and altitude.
