In a landmark announcement at the Nvidia AI Summit 2024 held in Mumbai, Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries has partnered with US chipmaker Nvidia to develop robust AI infrastructure in India. This strategic collaboration aims to position India as a leading intelligence market by harnessing the country's vast IT talent, digital data, and youthful population.
The partnership will leverage Nvidia’s cutting-edge GB 200 supercomputer technology, paving the way for large-scale AI capabilities in India. The initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of self-sufficiency in AI development, signaling a significant shift towards creating an ecosystem conducive to innovation and growth.
During the summit, Mukesh Ambani emphasized the transition from a knowledge-based revolution to what he terms an "intelligence revolution." He acknowledged Nvidia’s advancements in AI technology, stating, “We are at the doorstep of the new intelligence age.” Ambani highlighted the potential for this transformation to drive economic prosperity and elevate India's status on the global stage.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang also recognized India’s unique advantages, particularly its large pool of skilled computer scientists. He remarked, “India has an enormous amount of data and consumers to drive that flywheel of intelligence,” positioning the country to significantly enhance its computing capabilities. This workforce will be pivotal in developing and implementing advanced AI solutions tailored to local and global markets.
Ambani noted that India’s robust connectivity infrastructure, bolstered by Jio's affordable data services, has created immense economic value, estimated to range between $500 billion and $700 billion annually. This accessibility, he believes, will be crucial for India to emerge as a significant player in the global intelligence market.
The collaboration represents a paradigm shift for India, as Ambani envisions the country evolving from an IT hub to a Centre of AI. He stressed the importance of harnessing India’s talent and innovation, asserting that this transformation could establish the nation as a vital player in the global AI landscape.
