New Online Training Initiative Aims to Enhance Skills and Professional Development at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, under the leadership of Union Minister Dr. L. Murugan, is embarking on a new initiative to improve the professional skills of its employees by launching an Integrated Government Online Training (iGOT) Lab. This move is part of a broader effort to adopt digital learning and continuous professional development within the Ministry. The announcement came following a detailed review of the Ministry's annual Capacity Building Calendar and progress on the iGOT platform, a portal that offers training courses for government employees.
The primary aim of the iGOT Lab is to foster continuous professional growth among the Ministry’s staff. By offering a range of online courses, the Lab will help employees develop skills and gain knowledge that will make them more effective in their roles. This focus on online learning aligns with the Ministry's strategic goal of modernizing training methods and expanding access to education.
To accelerate the adoption of this digital learning initiative, Dr. Murugan has set a tight deadline: all Ministry employees are expected to be registered and actively using the iGOT portal by October 19. This quick onboarding demonstrates the Ministry’s commitment to integrating digital learning tools and making professional development a core part of its work culture.
The Ministry has identified 16 key courses to prioritize for employee development, covering a range of essential skills and knowledge areas. These include:
Budget Management: Training employees in effective financial management practices.
Gender Sensitization: Promoting awareness of gender equality and fostering inclusive work environments.
Leadership: Building leadership skills to guide teams and manage projects.
Team Building: Enhancing the ability to collaborate and work as a cohesive team.
To encourage active participation, the Ministry plans to recognize and reward employees who complete the highest number of courses each quarter. This system of incentives is designed to motivate continuous learning and create a culture where skill development is a regular and valued activity.
The Ministry is also organizing workshops across its various media units to explain the learning agenda and the objectives of the iGOT Lab. These workshops aim to ensure that all employees understand the Ministry's strategic goals and can work collaboratively towards achieving them. The workshops will also provide a platform for discussing how to implement the new learning methods effectively.
In addition to the launch of the iGOT Lab, Dr. Murugan conducted a review of the Ministry's processes for handling grievances and Right to Information (RTI) applications. He emphasized the importance of addressing issues promptly and efficiently to maintain high standards of transparency and accountability within the organization.
The introduction of the iGOT Lab marks a significant step in modernizing the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting's approach to employee development. By integrating online training and professional growth into the Ministry’s culture, the initiative aims to empower staff with the skills needed to excel in a rapidly evolving digital world.
